Contra Costa County Department of Conservation & Development Offices
LCA Architects assisted the County of Contra Costa with consolidation of hundreds of employees spread across five floors at 651 Pine Street, and a county building on Glacier Drive, into one location. LCA conducted interviews with key staff and department heads to come up with a layout that would meet the need of all employees, whose duties include building inspections, code enforcement, and planning. During the design process, LCA was able to share with staff better department adjacency layouts that would improve work efficiency and collaboration. LCA was able to build consensus with the users and developed a design package to save money and streamline the department’s operations. The County staff now occupies the entirety of both buildings and the renovation accommodates the needs of these personnel. This project set an example through the development of a compelling sustainable design strategy. The project has attained LEED Gold Certification by including solar panel covered carports, plenty of natural day lighting, and drought tolerant landscaping. LCA Architects was responsible for the Bridging Documents for this Design Build project.
