Fire Station 84 (ST84) is a Replacement/Relocation station in Pittsburg. The first Fire Station 84 had been built in original downtown Pittsburgh. Due to expansion of the city, the downtown location became obsolete with approximately 40% of ST84 coverage area located in the delta waters.

LCA worked extensively with ConFire to identify suitable property sites that were more appropriately located and would give the new ST84 a more efficient coverage area.  (ST84 was designed and coordinated with the relocation and replacement  of Fire Station 85, another LCA project also in Pittsburg).  We recommended the purchase of a parcel near the new city Hall / Civic Center and participated in the purchase negotiations for the property. The station was designed to match the materials and colors of the new Pittsburg City Hall. This was applauded by the City as the station was identified as a part of the Civic Center.

Some of the new design features and improvements at FS84:

• A linear trench drain system in the Apparatus Bay to improve safety and cleanliness of the Apparatus Bay floor.  
• The location of FS84 and changing neighborhood conditions required   substantial security features.  These included proximity card access, security cameras, elevated street-side windows, Front door (public entry) security enclosure, and a sound attenuating and security wall surrounding the station.
• Modifications to the roll up doors to improve reliability with better opening and closing times.
• A roof-sheltered kitchen patio to offer year-round use.
• Better landscape design to lower maintenance and   water use, improve security sight-lines, and highlight the station in the Civic Center corridor.  
• New generation flooring materials which are healthier, easy to care for, and more aesthetically pleasing.
• Elevated station baseline with improved drainage to protect the station structure.
